Red Sorrow provides a personal witness to a time when the cult of Mao ran amok under the label of the Cultural Revolution in China. The author gives us an inside look at life amidst that terror.I have to shake my head at a few would-be reviewers who try to turn that chapter of history into a warning against any kind of liberal government. The behavior of Mao and his cult was more fascist than liberal! If anything, the Cultural Revolution era in China, with its personality cult and its contempt for scientists and intellectuals, more closely resembles current right-wing movements - including Trumpism in the United States.
