Description
Highly-anticipated 2015 solo album by Saint Etienne's lead singer Sarah Cracknell. Red Kite, the belated follow-up to her 1997 album Lipslide, is fan-fared by the single 'Nothing Left To Talk About', a duet with guest vocalist Nicky Wire of the Manic Street Preachers. Musically, Red Kite has a sophisticated, pastoral feel, drawing on classic '60s pop with less of a dance music influence than Saint Etienne. Sarah has co-written all the songs bar one cover version, 'The Mutineer'. Recorded at Big Pink, Oxfordshire and in Cardiff in winter 2014 and early 2015, the album has been co-produced by Carwyn Ellis (Colorama).

I used to write a lot of reviews on Amazon in its early days but don't do it so much these days. In this day of downloadable MP3's and MP4's I also rarely buy CD's like so many other people. But there are a few artists that I simply want to have the CD for my collection and Sarah Cracknell. Saint Etienne and all of their side projects falls into that category. This is a lovely album and there's little else I can say about it. Sarah's vocals sound as luscious as ever and the melodies are just so easy to listen to. I particularly liked the lead cut "on the Swings." "Ragdoll" and "Hearts are for Breaking" are also standouts. There are only about 3 people who worked on this album as you read the credits. All of the instruments are played by the same people. People who love this band like I do will not be disappointed. It is so true to the Saint Etienne tradition. Reminds me more of their 90's material.
