Very well made heavy aluminum that was price way below the big box stores. Holds a lot of chalk and the line comes out smoothly and filled with a lot chalk. Not fond of the red chalk as it's difficult to see on brown surfaces, but that's easy enough to change. The only problem I had with the item was that a lot of chalk "sprayed" out the end when the string was pulled out. However, I haven't owned or used other chalk lines that prevent extra chalk from escaping when you pull the line out. Fill door stays closed, but it's not too difficult to open
