Mimulus hybridus F2, commonly called Monkey Flower, is a wonderful little annual that is found in a wide range of moist habitats. It can be found growing in wet coastal meadows to mountain slopes that have streams fed from snow melt. They prefer stream beds where there is an abundance of moisture. In the landscape setting, Mimulus is perfect for planting around ponds and streams. They have a long bloom season, all summer and into the fall. This variety, Twinkle Red, provides a profusion of deep red blooms. Mimulus is lovely in containers too. Very easy to grow and very rewarding! Start the seeds indoors 6 – 8 weeks before the end of frost season. Press the seed into the soil but do not cover it. Keep the seed moist. With a temperature of 68 – 72F, germination is usually within 14 days. Transplant outdoors after danger of frost has passed. Grow Mimulus in full sun to partial shade and in moist, well-drained soil. Within 8 – 10 weeks, Mimulus will bloom from seed.
