I was worried that my Havenese would try to pull them off or refuse to walk. I started by only putting one boot on her and enticing her with her favorite treat to walk around in the house. I would call her to me and, when she took steps and ignored them, she got treats. I did this a couple times during the day, then put a pair on her and finally all four. She walked funny at first, but the treats helped her forget they were on. After 36 hours of practicing in the house, her first trip out in the snow went smoothly. My only suggestion is to trim the straps to the size you need them, and then coat the edges and cut end of the strap with some E600 to keep it from unraveling. These have made all the difference, the snow doesn't get caked between her pads and they insulate her tender paws from the extreme cold. They do seem to run smaller than you would expect. I would have thought XXS would only fit a Chihuahua, but they are perfect for a Havanese.
