I must thank he Rough Guide for recommending this disc of music including that of Elizabeth Lyutens well conducted by Christopher Austin by the Brunel Ensemble who specialize in contemporary British music. Elizabeth Lutyens studied in Paris and was affectionately known as "12-tone Lizzie" during her lifetime . The Six Bagatelles are a modern masterpiece scored with percussion and piano and strings. O saisons, O chateux is a setting of a poems by Arthur Rimbaud is astonishingly beautiful with is use of solo violin is perfectly sung by Teresa Cahill, soprano brought tears to my eyes. Even though twenty minutes are dedicated to Lutyens the rest of the disc is very enjoyable The Birthday pieces by Robert Saxon was composed for a friend and Red Leaves by John McCabe describes his visit to New England in Autumn is 1quite beautiful.and Symphony no 7 for strings by Malcolm Williamson complete the CD. I am still waiting over six weeks for another recommendation of her chamber concerto,I so enjoyed these works Please excuse any typos I have a neurologic disease.
