Our dog has had this only supervised. She is a heavy chewer and destroys many/most toys, even some of the aggressive chewer toys. She is very clever, though, and this ball keeps her mind so occupied that she doesn't resort to just gnawing on it for pleasure. She has so much fun batting it around sometimes that she doesn't always slow down to eat all the kibble that has fallen out! If it's mealtime and she's particularly hungry, she does a better job cleaning up kibble as it comes free. I appreciate that she can get every-last-piece out on her own. She tends to wander away from it when there are no more pieces inside. At that point we often pick it up and set it out of her reach. We haven't bothered to lately because she treats it so well and has a surplus of other chew toys available. I could see how a dog left unattended may chew on it because of the food scent, or how a dog that doesn't use feet for problem solving may just try to eat their way through. I have been very impressed at how the plastic has held up. She does bite it and carry it in her mouth briefly while playing, but it doesn't have a single scrape/groove/scratch in the plastic. It's a little dirty on the outside from her paws and no worse for the wear. She punctures most toys, has broken a couple natural (femur) bone chews, only uses the black kong toys, and destroys tennis balls in seconds. The Outward Hound Snoop toy in large we own received punctures right through from her playing the same way the second time she used it. She enjoys that one too, but it won't last more than a dozen uses supervised. Her just picking it up punctures the material right through. I highly recommend this one if your dog is the puzzle solving, paw-playing type.
