Devil You Know 'They Bleed Red' is here! What a surprise it was to see that they were already releasing a new CD only a year and a half after the first. I heard them in 2013 when I found 'Shut It Down', since then I was hooked. Bought 'The Beauty of Destruction' when it released and loved it. After hearing it for the last year and a half I still love it, but They Bleed Red trumps it in every way.The first thing you notice when 'Consume the Damned' starts up is that it just explodes. After the wave of awesome settles, you notice that it explodes very cleanly, the production is crystal clear here. I loved 'The Beauty of Destruction' but it had a very echo-y feeling to it at times, especially with Howard's voice. Not a problem here, it all sounds clean and Howard is pumping out some even more incredible screams and cleans for this record.Though it may seem the band is centered around Howard Jones, as Howard is widely discussed when you hear about Devil You Know, the band Francesco Artusato(Lead and Rhythm guitar), John Sankey(Drums) and, first appearance on CD with DYK, Ryan Wombacher(bass) light up the night instrumentally. Francesco's fingers just don't seem to stop dancing across the frett board with his leads. His solo's are also blistering and smooth. The drums are thundering, but has very precise and intense cymbal and snare work. Johns double bass is also some of the fastest I've heard. Though Francesco did great on covering bass with the first album, Ryan's presence as an experienced metal bassist is felt and adds a great dynamic and heaviness to the music. That being said, Howard cannot be ignored and the man pulls off some of his most dynamic work to date on this record, in my opinion. I, like most, first heard him with Killswitch Engage. He always impressed me with his diverse ability to scream from deep to high in the same note coupled with his awesome clean singing makes him a force. His screams are more powerful than ever and his cleans have returned full force and sound great. Having recently heard his work with Blood Has Been Shed, I can say that this CD has some of his best vocal and lyrical work. Devil You Know is my favorite band he's been in.This album shows a very strong and intensely focused Devil You Know, and the band shows a great cohesion. They take everything from the first record and take it up to the next step. Most of the songs are shredding Metal, my favorite right now being 'Master of None', a few songs like 'Break The Ties' and 'Searching For The Sun' drop down a few gears but don't loose heavy-ness. Personally I enjoyed their cover, which transforms 'Eye of The Tiger' from a simple classic rocker song to straight up metal awesome. It sounds like Howard and the band had a lot of fun doing the song. The surprise track 'I Am Alive' shows a very shocking and beautiful side to Devil You Knows music. Though I love their heavy and shredding side, having a track or two like this on their next album would be a very interesting way to show their diversity.Bottom line, if you love Metal check them out. If you loved the first record, this one is even better. Devil You Know show some great diversity and melody even as they shred with more intensity than most bands out there. I can't wait for future albums, but with 'They Bleed Red' blasting in my car, it'll be a great wait.
