From my point of view "Red Exposure" is Chrome's best album. It's a transition between the sometimes pure noise (you can also call it cut-up techniques) on their previous albums (halfmachine lip moves, the visitation, alien soundtracks) to something more pop-like song structures. On later albums Damon Edge and Helios Creed went on to real rock song structures. But Red Exposure is caught between the completely anarchic and song structures (intro, verse, bridge, chorus, verse and so on), combining the best of both worlds. No doubt, there is strange noise, lots of distortion, feedback loops, lots of effects but also perfectly dancable beats (i.e in the songs "Animal" and "Static Gravity") and mooglike analog synthesizers. And I can't really sit still while "Eyes in the center" plays on.And their music is really avantgardistic for the time it was made in. Not many people incorporated noise into their music like Chrome did. Throbbing Gristle and Cabaret Voltaire come to mind, but both bands treat noise differently. The over all impression is one of beautiful darkness and a dense atmosphere. What I don't like is the way the record company treated this album. The picture on the cover is different from the lp version, why?The back of the cover says: "Chrome Retro Transmission". Shouldn't it say "Chrome Red Exposure"?The sound is not as good as on the lp. That's strange and happens very rarely.I know I'll get confused if i search for the cd later, because of the misleading back cover. But the musical quality of this album is so excellent, that I still rate it with 5 stars.
