We are fans of 'Ruffwear' products.Dee has several of their products within his wardrobe and storage bins. Initially, while shopping for a new collar, we were concerned with the metal buckle pinching or snagging his coat/skin - nothing of that sort has happened. However, and I sincerely hope this is just my collar in particular, the buckle has released NOW three times. The 1st: while he was scamping in the grass-we thought maybe he caught it somehow while flopping like a fish out of water as happy as can be.The 2nd: while in the parking lot of a pet store on a major road, he was simply walking with a bit of excitement, naturally a tug or two but nothing extreme and the collar clanged on the sidewalk- we immediately bought another collar for back up.The 3rd: just a few minutes ago while walking on Father's Day morning, he was pacing a car that was passing-by in our community, sometimes he likes to trot along with cars passing by, given his lengthy leash. I must add that the fact that I placed the collar on him once let alone the several times after the first untimely unlatch is testament to the 'Ruffwear' name, even after buying another collar. After the first, I began checking the leash every few minutes to be certain of it being locked; it has been. But now, this collar, and I say this in hopes that it is just mine, isn't trustworthy in securing my four-legged son to the leash that I hold. I have looked at it thoroughly for a possible reason for the collar's untimely release (I am mechanically inclined and hold a couple of patents and TMs) and thought maybe there is something missing off of the mechanism on this particular collar, my collar; if not then it is designed poorly; I truly dislike saying this period. This item has been used for 5 or 6 days by my 80 pound, four-legged, furry boy who loves to lay&scamp in the grass, run along with cars or walk off of the beaten path once in a while... I am thankful he is as obedient as he is, otherwise he would've been hit by a car due to the collar unlatching when it did.Again, I truly hope this is my collar alone and not the others sold or to be sold but buyer please be cautious as I had even given my collar several pull tests within my own hands and it did not release once while I did so fist to fist but apparently while wearing the collar, the release depressions are not effective in securing my dog to my hand during our together time; quite unfortunately.I am NOT writing this detailed review with malice or with any intent to defame or slander 'Ruffwear' products. As I stated immediately, we are fans of and proud consumers of the name and products by 'Ruffwear' in my house, even buying gifts for others bearing the 'Ruffwear' name. I am so sincere in this one review because I love my dog, I aim for nothing but his welfare and happiness. If I could prevent an accident, then that is my objective. If this is just a single incident to the very collar that I have now, than that is even better.I've only had this collar for a couple of months but I can say that I will likely never buy anything else because of the adjustible leash attachment point. Why all collar's don't have this is crazy. This feature allows you to keep the leash point at the top of the collar on the back of the dog's neck, while the heavier collar clasp is on the front of the dog's neck under it's head. By doing this you don't have to reach under the dog and find the d-ring leash attachment point every time you go out, it's fight there on the collar right behind the head and easy to snap on the leash. And then using Ruffwears clever push to open clasp and it makes hooking up your dog a one handed breeze.Like all Ruffwear products, this collar is well made. The problem I have with it is the huge buckle. My 8 month old pup is over 70 lbs and the buckle digs into his neck. Can’t return it since we threw away the package. I’m hoping he might be able to wear it when he’s full grown. If not, I’m going to have to donate it somewhere.Love it! Huge Ruffwear fan! They stand behind their products and have great customer service, so I always give their products a try. I wasn't sure if I'd like this one because of the metal clasp,.. through it looked all cool,.. I've got a 90 lb mixed breed with a 26" neck and the large fit great. The metal clap is durable but not to heavy or uncomfortable. I like the green with the reflective stripe for going on evening walks so I can spot him easily if he decided to sniff around at a distance & for safety. Glad I tried this collar and I'll still use it but personally I like the feel of the normal plastic clasp as with the waterproof headwater collar (it doesn't get stinky when it gets wet). I use to have a dog that would chew the clap on the collar and this might be a good option if you've got a chewer to prevent them from destroying collars but for ease of human use,.. it's pretty good. If you're thinking of getting it,.. do it! You won't regret it. Two thumbs up.Love this collar. It has a metal clasp that is very sturdy. I have a mini Aussie and she pulls hard on the leash . I had one with a plastic clasp and it came apart and she got loose. She is 8 months old and 27 lbs. the small is perfect. I will be getting another one. Both of these had to be altered with use of my sewing machine. As size small one was not small enough for my small Boston Terrier. The other was set a little too loose for my larger Boston. This collar has a reflective strip, and it is flat and wide, but not stiff. It has a clip for ID tags with a rubber tag so the tags don’t make noise. The collar was easily adjusted (I bought three for my dogs) and stays adjusted. It has a healthy clip for the leash, which was something I was looking for (I have Jack Russells and Corgis and their collars had tiny rings for the leash, and a sturdy leash has too large a clip). Love these collars. I use their harnesses also. I highly recommend this brand and this collar.By far the best brand of collar we’ve found, we had one with a chain and had to purchase one for training purchases that was “flat” we wanted another ruffwear, and found this one, so far it has been just amazing as the first one.Great collar. First Ruffwear collar that I have bought. Love the Green colour - it really stands out on my mainly black collie pup. The best part is the lead attachment staying at the top when he is off lead which means I can easily locate it when I need to put him back on the lead. Being a BC he has very long hair in the collar area and I struggled to locate the ring on his previous collar. Bonus that it is reflective as well although that is not as important to me because he has a very reflective lead.Pricey but nice. My dog looks good. The last one of these ruff wear collars frayed after perhaps two years.I would prefer one made with natural fibres but I buy these as I know I can send it through the washing machine. Handy when your dog has found something nasty to roll in!The plastic tighteners that adjust the length are cheap and rubbish, with even the smallest pull they loosen the collar. For this reason it defeats the point of having a metal clip lock on the collar if the plastic adjusters can easily slip and allow the dog to slip their neck out of this collar.seemingly hard wearing, nice collar, nice fastener, very easy to get it off to wash when he gets it wet then coated in mud. My only gripe is it loosens off and needs adjusting every few days. In hindsight i would of been better off getting a decent leather collar with a fixed setting for adjustment. if they could fix / improve the size adjustment to be more solid it would of been 5 starThis is the second Ruffwear dog collar for my Jack Russell. The first one bought 5 years ago and is still useable. This is a very secure collar and wears well. Have several Ruffwear items. Excellent quality items. Certainly recommend.
