With all the well deserved acclaim this author and tgis book have received it hardly seems necessary to add a review but this book is not only the best first in a series mystery I’ve read in a long long time,It’s one if the best novels i’ve read about indigenous people in a long time. And while the story is centered on a murder that must be solved, this is much more than a mystery book. This is a rich and engrossing novel, beautifully written, about a truly fascinating and complex character, and the world she occupies. Cash Blackbear’s humanity, her pain, her sorrow, her compassion, her fears, and that of several other characters both major and minor, is so beautifully depicted.Every event and every character has a deep human truth, that I found myself forgetting that I was reading a book, and felt as if I was experiencing these events and people.Never once does the author mislead or misdirect with regards to the twists and turns ofbthecstory; there is no manipulation for the sake of suspense. This is just a really good story, filled with great compassion, about a sensitive and vulnerable but tough young woman beautifully told.I can’t wait to read the next one.
