So, I found out about this book through the Christian fantasy website Holy Worlds, and bought it for my Kindle. I figured it was the least I could do to help out a new author! I started it, then set it aside for a while, then picked it back up and finished it very quickly. This is a very good and enjoyable book, told in first person, past tense by the protagonist Philadelphia, a girl who is 16 years old, I believe. It is a futuristic dystopian sci-fi, set in the former United States and on Mars. The beginning was a little confusing at first, and I thought the part with a neighbor family was a little forced and unnecessary.Philadelphia goes by two nicknames: Phil and Philli. I prefer the latter, and once or twice I kind of got confused because when someone would say, "Phil," I would automatically think they were talking to a boy (though there is no boy by that name in the book). Another minor complaint I have is the brevity of this book. I think it probably could have been a bit longer. Now, for the good (which far outweighs the bad):Philli lives alone with her father. Her brother was sent to Mars, and her mother is dead. She and her father have a very sweet relationship; I wish more father-daughter relationships in books and movies were portrayed this way. They are both Christians, and they struggle with not compromising their faith. Compromising would mean that they could get out of the oppressive concentration-like camps they are in.I'm not going to spoil the story, but basically, Philli and her father are sent to Mars (her father is a scientist) to work in a research center that is there. Philli unintentionally stumbles onto some secrets while exploring, and also makes a friend.I give this book a plus for having no romance in it (seriously, who needs another romance in another book?).There were a handful of somewhat cliche pieces of dialogue, but that's probably not easily avoided (and many professionally published books by well known authors have dialogue that is anything but original). There was some humor in this book, but not a lot. There were several good emotional scenes, and several tense ones. These were very well done, in my opinion. So, will I be reading it again? Yes, most likely. It also has nothing inappropriate in it, and is something I would feel perfectly fine with having my younger sisters read. All in all, a very good book, and I hope there will be more books (maybe novel length) with Philli in them. I will certainly be on the look out for them.
