What a wild and thrilling ride! I would wholeheartedly recommend this book again and again! This story took me on a tender adventure with tons of surprises and heartwarming moments! I need this book turned into into a black and white film, as it played out that way in my head. So much woven into this beautiful story: heartache, loss, acceptance, and healing.Vera Pembroke is such a feisty and guarded woman. She has been through nightmare upon nightmare. One fatal night she becomes the only witness to a murder and thus needs to trust a cop, and in Pittsburg during 1928 it’s hard to come by a trustworthy one so she is very leery of Mick.Sergeant Mick Dinelo: aka Ace, has a fierce dislike for the gangsters and mobsters of the city for reasons he still has a hard time coping with. His rough and hard exterior is softened by Vera, even though she fights him every time he is trying his best to help her.You will love: Allegheny Forest, Her Mystery Hero, Enemies to More, Dual POV, Kotex issue (IYKYK), Vera milking her injury, Lacey and her cottage, Tea berry Picking, Shooting Lessons, Dancing Under the Stars, and The Precious GiftI loved how both Mick and Vera had to learn to trust each other and how both truly needed healing in the only way you can find true healing. Mick learned to practice what he preached in a sense. I’m always a fan of books with Christian and faith filled elements.Favorite Quote: “And makeup may cover that scar on your face, but it can’t heal the ones on your heart.”Thank you Rachel Scott McDaniel for another beautiful story of hope, love, and healing. The way you weave that in with this murder mystery was astounding!
